Time for Deep Sea Roundup

Starting July 8 thru the 11 its time for the 75 Annual Deep Sea Roundup. This tournament is sponsored by the Port Aransas Boatmans Society. Come catch the weigh-in’s on Friday and Saturday at 4 p.m. for the Bay-Surf/Fly-fishing and at 7 p.m. for the Offshore weight-in. This is a family friendly tournament that includes a Piggy Perch Contest for the kids, as well as juniors and adult divisions for bay and offshore anglers. THe tournament started is as the Tarpon Rodeo in 1932. it was interrupted durring World War II and, as the tarpon population declined in Gulf waters, the name was changed to the Deep Sea Roundup.

The Tall Ships are Coming

Set sail for Port Aransas and the ship channel on Friday morning and watch the tall ships sail by. 3 ships, Mexico, Chilli and Uraguay will make way to the Port of Corpus Christi in celebration of Tall Ships and Independence Day beginning at dawn Friday morning. If the weather does not hold out, they will anchor off shore until Saturday morning. Public tours of these wonderful ships will be available in Corpus. If you have never seen these tall ships before, now is the time to grab your camera, lawn chair and family and come to the jetties. They are truly amazing

ITS TIME TO CATCH SOME REDS!!! Red snapper “season” is in full gear and the local docks are realing them in…Bay guides reported catches of Redfish, speckled trout and drum, while offshore…catches of dorado, tuna and amberjack are amoung many. Looks like its time to pack your fishing pole and head on down to see us and GO FISHING!!!!

The Calm After The Storm

We had quite a storm blow thru on Wednesday Night…70 mile and hour winds and sheets of rain!! But no damage was done here at Plantation Suites or Port Aransas. Scattered power outages and a few internet interruptions, gave way to beautiful, sunny skies and very clean beaches. We are gearing up for summer and planning fun for the whole family. Horseshoe tournaments on Mondays, “Beach Volleyball”, on our great court on Friday and a Family Managers BBQ at the pool on Wednesday evenings all add up to a fantastic summer getaway. Make your reservatoins now and you could win a BBQ Package for 4 people in one of these tournaments. See you on the courts!

A Great Bass Pro Tournament

It was another successfull and fun filled Bass Pro Tournament here at Plantation Suites. The weather was perfect and the Gulf had just enough swell to keep it interesting! Many varieties of fish were caught including Spanish Mackeral, King Fish, Mahi Mahi (also known as Dorado) and others. Our General Manager, Shawn caught his first fish..a 38 inch King fish and from what we hear, it put up quite a fight. Way to go Shawn. After the mighty fisherman (and women) returned, Mark from Little Joes BBQ cooked up an awsome meal of fresh - large- Gulf Shrimp, purchased from our resident and local shrimp boat, the Polly Anna. Along with potatoes, corn and bread, it was quite a feast. After cake and FISH STORIES the awards were presented for 1st place, 2nd place and most fish caught, along with other door prizes. We are already planning for our next Bass Pro Tournament!!!

Congratulations go out to Michael Woods. Michael has receieved the promotion to Captain for TXDot, working on the Port Aransas Ferry Boats. Michael has been working for TXDot for 8 years as senior Deckhand and recently obtained his captains license and extensive training in the Wheelhouse. He is the husband of Tracey Woods, Assistant General Manager here at Plantation Suites. Good luck Captain Woods!

SPLASH INTO SPRING AT THE TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM

Would you like to “shake fins” or get a “wet kiss” with a dolphin? A once in a lifetme opportunity is happening at The Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi this spring. You will be able to interact with the dolphins and their trainers with a terrific 1 hour program. This opportunity allows you to get in the water with the dolphins (note: this is NOT a swim program, participants will be in 32 inches of water). Available Fridays - Monday. Limited to 8 guests per session, 8 years and up. (under 13 must be accompanied by a paid adult)
Cost is only $99.00 per person and this includes aquarium admission.

Grab your shovels and pails, put on your comfy shoes and head to Port Aransas for Sandfest, April 9 - 11. Located on the sparkling Texas shoreline, between mile markers 9 and 14, this wonderful, family friendly event showcases some of the worlds, YES WORLDS top sand scuplture artists and designers. It is promoted as the largest master sand sculpting competition in the United States. Last year there were over 26 professional sculptors with at least that many in attendance for this years event
Also featured at Sandfest will be food booths, arts and crafts exhibits, bands and some of the best people watching in Texas. With over 100,000 people expected to be in attendance, make your plans and reservations early. Planatation Suites and Conference Center is ideally located within walking distance to the event and will proudly be sponsoring a artist again this year.
