The Texas Treasure gambling ship has been taken away from its port in Port Aransas, and the possibility of it returning is not good at this time. There is a legal battle going on between the ship’s owners and operators, and there is little optimism that the ship will be returned. However, since our island has 15 miles of gorgeous beaches, all the fishing available a person could ask for, and many wonderful restaurants, tourists have plenty to do with family fun galore.

June 19th, 2008ANOTHER BASS PRO SUCCESS

Plantation Suites hosted another in the series of Bass Pro Shops Deep Sea Fishing Adventures last weekend. Besides the great fishing, the shrimp boil was delicious, and afterwards, prizes were awarded for fish caught. First prize went to Chris Lanoue, second prize to Luke Morris, and third was won by Sonya Moeller.

Although there are no movie theaters on the island, the Parks and Recreation Dept. is now sponsoring a movie night during the summer. On Thursdays, there will be a family-oriented movie shown at the Ellis Memorial Library for only 25 cents. After a long day of fun in the sun, it could be a great way to enjoy a relaxing evening.

June 5th, 2008RED SNAPPER SEASON OPENS

One of the most popular fishing seasons is Red Snapper season. It is now open and will end August 5, 2008. There is some concern that gasoline prices will keep some tourists away, but reports are that the fishing is still great and folks are still flocking down.
